For those who haven’t heard, I got married last month! You can read all about it…
However, I wanted to devote a quick Minor Key Monday post to featuring the 30 most minor key songs played at our wedding (even though most of these have already been featured on Minor Key Monday).
Laura and I split our playlist duties, and my side of the list was obviously linked by one (and only one) musical quality through our “laid back, then late 60s, then dance party, then random love songs” playlist trajectory. Great care was taken to have the songs at least be SOMEwhat lyrically appropriate (which left out most of Britney’s best work), and at least SOMEwhat pleasant to listen to (which left out the two black metal love songs that I am aware of).
So, here are the songs that I picked to play for our wedding playlist, I promise you the actual celebration was nowhere nearly as grim an affair as these songs might suggest (mostly thanks to Laura’s more upbeat side of things with her song choices).
Yes, some of these are stretches as “love songs,” especially the metal ones. I am, after all, choosing to interpret “Flight of Icarus” as a celebration of the human desire to touch the heavens, without reading anything into the consequences. And the Saxon song is about loving a train…still counts… The rest of the “metallish” ones…fine, maybe they don’t fit lyrically, but I had to put at least a BIT of metal on my list!
